Drawing from the Print. — As soon as the place of the building on the paper is fixed, the level of the eye must be determined and marked, and the vanishing points of the principal sets of horizontal lines must be found on that. It is of course easier for the beginner to use such vanishing points as are near enough to be marked. But the student must fully understand that a point too far away to be marked can be mentally located, and the lines drawn toward it with closely approximated accuracy. The essential thing is to have the position of such a point clearly thought out, — even, for instance, as specifically as that it is “ the width of the board,” or “ three times ” that, distant. The power to do this accurately grows rapidly, and can be attained by students of moderate ability. It is one object of this study.
